NOTE: Albany does NOT have a hostel at the present time. In earlier
years, there was a bed-and-breakfast in Albany that was used as hostel.
However, when the owner decided to get out of the business, the hostel
closed. The local council is in the planning stages for establishing a
new hostel in the Capital District. As plans unfold, they will be
detailed on this web page.
OUR FIRST THOUGHT is to find out if any current Bed & Breakfast
owners in the city of Albany would be willing to set aside a few
bare-bones rooms for the purpose of hostel lodging in Albany.
(Interested parties should contact Brian Logan at 518-463-6763.)
OUR SECOND THOUGHT involves the following considerations:
1. A summer-only hostel in Saratoga Springs.
2. Partnering with another non-profit to form a hostel.
3. Purchasing a big Victorian house that has already been divided up
into studio apartments; this would create a very unique B&B type
hostel in Albany.
OUR THIRD THOUGHT involves exploring several potential unused buildings
in Albany, Troy and Saratoga for possible future hostel sites. Much
groundwork still needs to be done to determine whether any of these
buildings will be viable for use as a hostel. We must do feasibility
studies, figure renovation costs, secure information on zoning and code
restrictions, etc.
If anyone in the city of Albany has a property they would like to
donate as a hostel for a tax write-off, please contact this
organization. Thanks.
